Getting the lay of the land in landscaping

Landscaping is all about borders and contours. Getting it right is one part inspiration, one part dedication, and one part back-breaking hard labor. The beauty of landscaping is that it's always a work in progress, always malleable.

Landscape design blends lawn, trees, shrubbery, and gardens and plantings with man-made accents. Fences, borders, retaining walls walkways,, raised beds, and structures all work in concert with the living elements to form a pleasing and uniform whole.

Good landscaping design also incorporates irrigation, run-off control, and lighting. It also aims to make best use of sun and shade for outdoor living and low-maintenance gardening. It's a holistic adventure, one that responds well to thoughtful preparation and an open mind.
