How to make raised flower beds

Raised flower beds add a clean cut manicured appeareance to your landscape. They are like gardens within a garden providing you with a defined space to create your own miniature work of art. A raised flower bed is very easy to do and this how to guide shows you how easy it is by using a ready made storage pallet. For a higher raised bed you can use 2 pallets instead of one.

Instructions
Step 1

Select a location with good  drainage and one that is exposed to at least 6 hours of sunshine per day. The location should also be easily accessible for you to tend your garden.

Step 2

Place the pallet over the selected area and mark around the pallet using a carpenter's chalk. You can also use a non-toxic spray paint to mark the area around the pallet. When you are done, remove the pallet.

Step 3

Dig down about 10 inches, inside the marked lines, removing all the soil within the markings. Discard the removed soil and grass or reuse elsewhere.

Step 4

Lay  chicken wire at the bottom to prevent moles and other unwanted visitors from damaging your garden. You can also choose to add landscaping fabric to minimize the growth of weeds.

Step 5

Place the pallet  boarded side down evenly over the dug out area and press in place.

Step 6

Add top soil to fill the up to 2 inches below the top. Add compost and work into the soil with a rake or a shovel. Level the soil and pat down lightly.

Step 7

Plant your seeds or seedlings according to planting instructions and water thoroughly. You can take care of your raised flower bed by keeping it free of weeds, using a fertilizer and watering as needed.
